Claire Tozer
"'Invitation To Sit’ is an en plein air painting made during Dorset Art Weeks when I was exhibiting my paintings at the pretty venue of Coombe Keynes Church. This bench is half way between the church gate and front door, and, literally, invites a nice place to sit during a visit, which many did. I wanted to capture the friendly welcome we hoped was conveyed when people came to visit our Open Studio, which I shared with three fellow artists and friends."
Claire Tozer lives on the Jurassic coastline in Dorset UK. She pursued an Art Foundation at Shelley Park, Boscombe in 1995, but, thereafter, is a self - taught artist and a Fellow member o f the Dorset Artists Guild.
Her paintings are a response to her immediate natural environment, made unique by the fact that many of her observations and inspirations come from her travels across the countryside and coast on horseback, giving her a ‘between the ears’ perspective of her surrounding landscape. Claire’s work is a culmination of these gathered moments of colour, light and texture she feels compelled to record, often and immediately through photographs she takes whilst out riding. From her studio Claire uses her photographs and sketches to create oil paintings on wood panels and canvas.
Claire ’s paintings are exhibited and are for sale in Fisher Street Frames, Beaminster Gallery and Seasons Green Gallery and on her website .
