Claire Breitsprecher lives and works in rural Hampshire. Working primarily in acrylic and oil pastel, her practice moves between drawing and painting, exploring the unseen, the forgotten, the fleeting, or unnoticed. 

Each piece begins with an intention, but the process is of searching for the image and allowing space for it to emerge unconsciously. Claire’s work was recently selected by John Martin Gallery for the “A Day in May” exhibition at their Spirit Studios in Suffolk, and The Lido Studios Margate 2026 “Memento Amoris” group show. She has enjoyed successful solo and group exhibitions in Berkshire, Hampshire and Gloucestershire.

“A Quiet Spot” is from a series of works exploring the symbiotic relationships between the trees, soil and fungi and of the mother tree protecting the small and unseen. This piece is an imagined view from this world beneath our feet. Using oil pastels, the image emerges though the layering of gestural marks and scraping back through the surface, creating an image imbued with the shapes, movement and atmosphere observed and absorbed on daily walks through woodland.
