Sarah Derby
I painted this small panel en plein air during a hot summer session on West Dorset’s Eggardon Hill. To lead the eye over the hills and toward the Jurassic Coast, I positioned myself in the shade of a tree facing a downhill track. Rather than capturing the landscape's early summer greenery, I chose to paint a dreamy premonition of the parched, bleached terrain it would become after subsequent heatwaves.
