This stoneware pedestal bowl combines both slab-built and wheel-thrown techniques. The upper bowl is formed from slab, well the pedestal base thrown on the wheel, blending both to create a smooth flow to give the peace height and refinement. The texture is created by Natalies fingers, creating a soft and tactile quality to the surface. The glass is chosen to settle and highlight this texture and enhance the handmade nature of the piece.

Natalie started her clay journey in 2020 after taking an introductory taster session that quickly developed into regular classes and sparking a passion for ceramics. This ultimately lead to setting up her own home studio, where is she now teaches alongside creating a new finding her own work.

Mainly a wheel-based ceramicist, Natalie creates functional homework pieces using smooth stoneware clay. She has an intuitive yet grounded feel for her medium, being especially drawn to carving through clay to create movement and texture in each piece. The glasses are chosen to complement and highlight these textures, creating a tactile quality.

Rather than creating duplicates, Natalie allows each piece to evolve naturally through the making process, allowing her to remain open, intuitive and creative.
