Lesley was born in County Durham but now lives in Hampshire and works from her studio in the garden of her cottage.

On leaving school, Lesley attended Didsbury College of Education where she studied art as part of her degree.

More recently, Lesley has joined various art groups and enjoys taking part in exhibitions. She is a member of the Wallop Artists, Artlook and Clarendon art group. She has exhibited at Ilminster Arts Centre, Hilliers at Romsey and Fisherton Mill in Salisbury. Lesley’s style is contemporary. Working on board, she enjoys painting still life, landscapes and seascapes and she often includes collage or mixed media in her work.

This piece was inspired by a river crossing in Yorkshire. It’s a response to the shifting relationship between flowing water, rocky banks and changing light. It captures the experience of moving through the landscape and invites the viewer to do the same through layered textures and gestural marks. It gives the painting a sense of quiet narrative, leaving space for the viewer’s imagination.
