Joanna has been painting for over thirty years, much of which has been work superficially from observation of settings around her. Behind those familiar objects are memories, mysteries and atmosphere which invite and provoke thought. The juxtaposition of reality and whimsy. She conveys images that invite you into that space.
She also enjoys drawing and painting from life and imagination, using the expressive movement and presence of figures and faces to speak out.
Joanna also works with a small group of Wiltshire artists who will be holding their own local exhibition in Spring 2027.
Everyday studio tools here are acting as vessels into memories, landscape and ideas. The images see the boundaries between interior and exterior, real or imagined, are dissolved.
The familiar objects are randomly placed, with layered colour and shifting light, invoking varied experiences. In creating a liminal space between concentration and dream we have time to pause.
