Tessa Newcomb was born in Suffolk in 1955, daughter of artist Mary Newcomb (1922-2008).

Newcomb attended Norwich School of Art from 1972 and then gained a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from Bath Academy in 1976. In 1977 she attended a printmaking course at the Wimbledon School of Art. Newcomb’s first solo exhibition was held at the Annexe Gallery in Wimbledon in 1979. Newcomb’s work is rooted in the East Anglian tradition and the Suffolk countryside is a predominant theme in her work.
