Circa 1975, Chamber opens its figure to view as though through a cutaway, a red tube running into the skull and wires trailing from the head, the goggled man's furred, almost simian hands betraying the collapse of the human into the animal that runs through the series. Borrowing the cold language of scientific illustration, it summons the decompression and space-race experiments of the Cold War in a quiet meditation upon the human cost of scientific advance.
