"We fear the dark, but if we really have the courage to explore the dark times and accept them we will gradually begin to see that we cannot have light without the dark. They really are one thing. And the most ordinary places, the bus stop, the escalator, have a beauty of their own, if we are awake to see it."
Anna Simmons, an oil painter, explores space and light within architectural settings. Her work captures urban landscapes and public interiors, where light transforms everyday scenes, while the presence of figures adds a sense of connection and narrative.
Although she painted throughout her life, Simmons had no formal early training. After leaving her teaching career, she committed fully to painting and later studied at St Martin’s, shaping the direction of her practice.
She has held solo exhibitions in London, Bath, and the United States, with her work collected widely across Europe, including Italy, Switzerland, and Germany.
