Hector McDonnell: Master of Light & Colour

We are delighted to have brought the work of Hector McDonnell to our gallery in Marlborough, following the success of his recent exhibition at Gallery Eight, London.

For more than five decades, McDonnell has built an international reputation through his deeply atmospheric paintings of architecture, landscape and everyday life. Born in Belfast and raised at Glenarm, County Antrim, his work has taken him across Ireland and to cities and landscapes throughout Europe and America, always guided by a remarkable sensitivity to light, place and memory.

The exhibition centres around McDonnell's recent paintings of Istanbul - a city he has long admired and wished to explore through his painting. Rather than focusing on its celebrated landmarks, these works reveal a more intimate Istanbul: its apartments, cafés, palaces, staircases, family homes and terraces; the rooms, objects, gestures and fragments of everyday life that give a city its character.

Exhibition runs from Friday 9 October - Friday 30 October. 

Gallery opening hours: Monday - Saturday, 10am - 4pm.

Access during the Marlborough Mop Weekends

On Saturday 10 and Saturday 17 October, the gallery will be closed due to the Marlborough Mop Fair.

On Friday 9 and Friday 16 October, the high street will also be closed from 12pm. Our gallery will be open and can be accessed from the bottom of The Parade. Bus routes will be diverted to Marlborough Road.
