Anna Simmons: Make Light of It

24 April - 29 May 2026

A new exhibition by local artist Anna Simmons, exploring light and darkness, and the quiet beauty of everyday life.

Simmons is drawn to depicting what she describes as “the drama of light shining in a dark place”. Her urban landscapes, interior public spaces, bus stops and escalators become sites of reflection. Through nuanced compositions and a sensitive handling of atmosphere, Simmons reveals a gentle, often unnoticed beauty and an attentive way of looking. At the core of the exhibition, Simmons presents light and dark not as opposites but as interconnected elements.

“We fear the dark, but if we really have the courage to explore the dark times and accept them, we will gradually begin to see that we cannot have light without the dark. They really are one thing. And the most ordinary places, the bus stop, the escalator, have a beauty of their own, if we are awake to see it.” Anna Simmons

The gallery will be closed on 4th and 25th May (bank holidays).
