Diana Neale has lived and worked in the heart of Wiltshire for over 35 years, following a varied and successful career path that ultimately led her to painting.
In 2016, after two decades running a private psychotherapy practice, she became a full-time artist. Before this, she was a dedicated photographer from a young age, later exhibiting and selling her work.
Working from her garden studio in the Vale of Pewsey, she paints almost daily, drawing inspiration from the surrounding landscape. Her paintings are built in layers—of place, material, and thought—creating works that evoke memory and imagination rather than directly depicting nature. Rooted in the Romantic tradition, her landscapes become expressions of the inner psyche, connecting artist and viewer.
Balancing abstraction, expressionism, and subtle surreal elements, her work often feels like looking through a window into both physical and dreamlike spaces. Earthy tones, natural forms, and shifting light create contemplative scenes that explore atmosphere, time, and memory. Influenced by archaeology and a sense of the ancient, her paintings suggest layered histories, where landscape, emotion, and imagination converge.
